In India, a woman’s jewellery has long travelled through her family. It arrives at weddings, waits through the ordinary years, and returns to welcome someone new. No object we own works harder at love.

Silk fades. Flowers fall. Fired enamel does not. Colour is laid and fired, shade by shade, until it is no longer a colour on the jewel but a colour of it.

This is how India keeps what it loves: not pressed in albums or folded away, but worn. Old stones reset into new gold, colour renewed from one generation to the next.
